You might be asking yourself why you are reading drivel about holiday weight gain in August, a month devoid of any holidays save for obvious favorites such as Work Like a Dog Day (August 5th), Book Lover’s Day (August 9th) and Just Because Day (August 27th). Well, you are reading this because it’s a well-known fact that even those of us with the best intentions find it difficult to avoid Halloween Candy, a second helping of turkey and mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving, and gorging on delectable Christmas cookies, and so as a result a lot of us throw in the towel as soon as the Autumn holiday season takes hold, vowing that we will resolve on new year’s to get back to eating healthy and working out.
DO YOU REALIZE THAT IS AN ENTIRE QUARTER OF THE YEAR YOU WASTE TREATING YOUR BODY LIKE A TRASH CAN?
So this post is about getting the jump on the holiday slump (see what I did there?). Before September even gets here, start thinking about being fit and healthy. Join a gym or a fitness class. Buy some DVDs or join a virtual gym if you have to work out at home (something like ZGym would work), and plan to manage your diet by joining a nutrition program such as Weight Watchers, or a free program like My Fitness Pal. As they say, when you fail to plan, you plan to fail. If you can set yourself up for success before the months that test us are upon us, your fitness and nutrition will already be a routine that won’t be totally thrown by a few Hershey’s minatures, a slice of apple pie, or an extra helping of turkey.
For those of you who live in the Phoenix area, this post is also about plugging my gym, because they currently have a bad-ass deal going on that will enable you to get your Fall off on the right foot. For $99 you can get an unlimited two-month membership during which we’ll be doing a fitness challenge with cash prizes for the top male and female winners in weight and fat loss categories. PLUS, a membership to Kosama comes with a free nutrition planner and tracker, so that’s taken care of too. The Challenge starts September 1st. Check out the gym and classes you’d be participating in on their website at www.kosama.com/Tempe. If you decide to join? Be sure to tell them I sent you.
